Problem
Unclear construction details leave too much to assumption
If the requirements, materials and scope boundaries for a joint or penetration are unclear, the solution may conflict with structural performance or adjacent works. Defects in a detail that will later be concealed are harder to inspect and rectify.
Solution
We clarify the solution before carrying out the work
We align working methods with the design requirements and actual site conditions. Together with the client, we establish the necessary approvals, inspection points and extent of documentation so compliance can be assessed before the detail is concealed.
Description
We carry out specialist work on structures, joints and penetrations, guided by the design, substrate condition and requirements for each detail.
Before work, we confirm scope, material suitability and links to other works. Joints and penetrations must function and preserve adjacent structures.
We agree how to resolve conflicting inputs or refine details before execution. Changes requiring design work are not replaced by assumptions on site.
Programme
-
Reviewing project information
We review the working drawings, construction details and requirements for the work area. We clarify which works are included in the order and which require a separate solution.
-
Assessing the work area and substrate
We establish the condition of the structures, access arrangements and preparation needed in the work area. We compare actual site conditions with the design information.
-
Agreeing the method of execution
We agree on working methods, materials and the sequence of work. We take account of adjacent works and the technical requirements specified in the design.
-
Carrying out specialist construction work
We carry out the agreed work on structures, joints and penetrations. If actual conditions differ from the design, we clarify the next steps before continuing the affected work.
-
Inspection and handover
We inspect the completed work within the agreed scope and compile the required as-built information. We agree on procedures for inspecting and documenting work that will be concealed before it is covered.
Who it’s for
-
Construction clients and property owners
We help define the scope of specialist construction work where the project requires precise execution of structures, connections or penetrations.
-
Main contractors and construction managers
We coordinate specialist construction work with the site work sequence and the scope boundaries of other contracts, so responsibilities are clear before work begins.
-
Property and maintenance managers
We clarify the conditions for work required in an existing building, including access, segregation of the work area and restrictions arising from the building's use.

Frequently asked questions
- What information do you need to assess the work?
- Please send a description of the work, relevant drawings or construction details and, where possible, photos of the existing conditions. We also need information on access, building use and restrictions related to other works.
- Can I commission work without a detailed construction drawing?
- We can first clarify what work is needed and review the available information. If execution requires a designed construction detail or a structural assessment, the relevant solution must be obtained and approved before work begins.
- Does creating a penetration include restoring fire resistance or watertightness?
- This depends on the design and the agreed scope of work. We clarify the requirements for the penetration separately, along with which sealing and reinstatement works are included in the order.
- How is the cost calculated?
- The cost depends on the construction details, scope of work, materials, access and preparation required. We prepare a quote once the project information and scope boundaries have been clarified.
- How is the start of work agreed?
- We agree on a start date once the scope, technical solution and readiness of the work area have been clarified. We also take account of the necessary approvals and completion of preceding works.
